The Infernal Devices is a series of prequels to The Mortal Instruments series, set in 19’th century London. The story concerns 16-year-old orphan Tessa Gray, whose quiet life is thrown into turmoil when her older brother Nathaniel suddenly vanishes, leaving her alone. Her search for him leads her into Victorian-era London’s dangerous supernatural underworld, where warlocks throw masked balls for half-demon Downworlders. When Tessa discovers that she herself is a Downworlder, she must come to trust her natural enemies, the demon-killing Shadowhunters, if she ever wants to learn to control her powers and find her brother. Torn between the beautiful Will, a Shadowhunter who isn’t what he seems, and the devoted Jem, whose own deadly secret is slowly destroying him, Tessa must draw on all her strength to save her brother and keep herself alive in this deadly new world.
SPOILERS EVERYONE. BEWARE!
Okay, so I didn’t expect to see this book out in a bookstore cos it is supposed to be out on December 6, but then I did and I bought, three weeks before it is out, instantly! I couldn’t wait more to read it.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I understood why Will acted like such an ass on Clockwork Angel. Poor Will, he must be so traumatized when he let out that demon and thought he had cursed him. He was just twelve years of age. Five years of endurance, five years of keeping people away from him, to make them hate him, to avoid to be close to them. It must have been hard. And he just had the guts to find a way to take the curse out because he loves Tessa. He loves Tessa so much yet they couldn’t be together because it was all too late. Jem had proposed and Tessa had accepted. It pained me when I read about the part where he locked the room to be able to tell Tessa everything, that he thought he had a curse on him, why he acted the way he did before, to kiss her passionately but for what? To know that she is going to be married to his parabatai, to Jem, his Jem, as he called it. It was so sad to read, being described as happy before everything and all, being giddy and always had a smil on his face then after the ‘bad news’, all the happiness had been pulled out of him.
I felt his sadness, oh, Cassandra Clare, why are you so good in writing your novels? God, you make me want to break Jem and Tessa’s engagement and take her to Will! To comfort him when he felt pain, again. You make me want to be part of the books you write!
And Jem, as I’ve said to my previous review about the Clockwork Angel, I like him as well. And I do feel a little sympathy for him because of his sickness. And that is it, he is sick and he knows that he is dying. Could he be more selfish in marrying Tessa? I mean, correct me if I’m wrong but he loves her and she loves him but he knows he’s gonna die and he knows Will likes Tessa as well, and Tessa feels the same for Will. Couldn’t he just be a good parabatai and give Tessa to Will, where she can be happy for a long time? Because Will is staying longer. But of course, I do understand that Jem just wants to be happy and he does deserve to be happy Both Will and Jem had a miserable and depressing childhood. Well, just my opinion though.
Oh I love Magnus! He has always been full of surprises. Ever since I read about him in The Mortal Instruments, he had never failed to give charm in a book. He is so witty! I love how he can be bisexual LOL Magnus really had done his role well, on being a warlock, in both Infernal Devices series and The Mortal Instruments. Though of course, I want him with Alec more. I just love him!
Well, it is also so nice knowing that Henry loves Charlotte as much as she loves him! The others assumed that they were only married because Charlotte needed a man to run the Institute and Charlotte thought that Henry married him to pay their family debt to her father. But they were wrong! They just love each other and they are expecting a baby boy! *Sorry another spoiler!* And I feel sad for Jessamine, she had gone blind and she thought Nate loved her. I feel sad for her even though she isn’t nice the whole time to Charlotte and the others.
Another love story would be Gideon and Sophie’s! Oh they are so cute. It’s sweet that Gideon wants to see her even after training sessions. But there is a rule about a shadowhunter marrying a mundane. I could just hope fr the best in heir relationship LOL I hope they end up together. And it really is nice for Gideon to side with them after everything! Betraying his father and becoming a noble shadowhunter.
And Tessa, I do not understand how Tessa loves them both. Just like how Bella loves Edward and Jacob at the same time and Meghan with Ash and Puck. I’ve never experienced loving two men at the same time. It must be hard. I don’t think it’s quite possible though. Because you can’t love another one if your love for the first one is strong enough. Oh well, anyway, if was Tessa, choosing between Will and Jem would be hard. They are both deserving and good people. But because I am in Team Will *Team Will, Team Will, Team Will* *ends chant* I’d like it better if they end up together. And I still do not know what Tessa is. Is she a warlock? Are they certain about it now?
Oh damn it! I have to wait for another year to get my hands on The Clockwork Princess. I can’t wait for another Will-ful book!
And oh, who do you prefer to be William Herondale? I saw this in a Facebook Fanpage and these are the nominated faces to be William. Oh they are all handsome and as appropriate as described!
And here are the men for James Carstairs. He is somehow said to have Asian features. So you decide…
And they all wanted Nina Dobrev to be Tessa Gray. And I must say, it is quite an option. I like her, she is very pretty!
Cannot choose. They are all to drool for LOL! But I think Nicholas Hoult resembles him more, don’t you think? And I think Jem resembles Hideto Takarai well. Oh, And here’s a very nice video, I found this in Youtube. And I claim no rights to it.
